66 - Strasburg Pounds Conotton Valley 65-47 (2-5-66)








THEY PROVIDE 'FUEL' FOR ROCKETS...Giving plenty of vocal support for Conotton Valley's high-flying Rocket basketballers this season are cheerleaders:  Shirley Nelson, Donna Moore, Cheryl Arbogast, Pam Carroll and Jane Leggett.




ROCKETS SOAR ALONG, SEEK LEAGUE TITLE...Conotton Valley High School's Rocket basketballers:  John Conner, Tim Stearns, Keith Leggett, Bruce Millhorn, Ed Miley, Wayne Grimes, Jim Monigold, John Nign, Ken Beamer, Neil Cadle, Fred Strawser and Bud Leeper.


BOWERSTON - Mighty Strasburg (13-4) will try to end season play with a 14-4 record Friday when it hosts Hiland in a return engagement (Just between you and me...Strasburg lost! "no stats".)  Hiland whipped Strasburg 55-50 December 30th at Hiland.  Ed Yackey and John Studer paced the Charlie Huggins-coached Tigers against Conotton Valley.  Yackey scored 20 points and pulled in 11 rebouinds and Studer, a prime candidate for All-Ohio honors, tallied 19 points and pulled in 8 rebounds.  Those 19 points pushed Studer's season total to 440,  giving him the top spot among Tuscarawas County point-makers.  Dan Jinks, the leader from Gnadenhutten going into the weekend, has 428.  High scorer for the Errol Jacobs-coached Rockets Saturday was Jim Monigold with 18 points, John Conner tallied 11.  Strasburg pulled in 39 rebounds, 25 on defense where it played one of its strongest games of the campaign.  The Tigers hit on 25 of 51 action tries for a blistering 49 percent and added 19 of 32 fouls.  They committed few turnovers.  The Conotton Valley Reserves got past the Strasburg Reserves 54-41.
