Blue Devil Harvey Byers (11) stalks big game in the person of Indian Chief Dan Jinks.

BIG '200' FOR HILLIARD...Ralph (Pete) Hilliard (holding plaque) became the only coach in the history of Tuscarawas County school to acquire 200 victories when his Midvale Blue Devils jumped to a 108-73 triumph on Saturday, February 5, 1966 against Port Washington.  On Febuary 7th Hilliard received the plaque from Big Blue Booster club President George Wilson.  Mrs. Hilliard was presented a special gift from Mrs. Lucille Kopp, a booster club member.  Hilliard's Midvale teams have lost only 55 games during his 12 years as head coach.

DOVER - If Gnadenhutten scoring star Dan Jinks was overheard humming "Me And My Shadow" last night, it was for good reason.  He received blanket coverage from Midvale's Harvey Byers.  Byers turned in a superb performance in defending the Indian ace, limiting him to 5 points over the first 3 periods.  And a good many of Jinks' 12 shots during that time were far off the intended mark.In the final period and with a Midvale (16-3) victory already assured,  Byers permitted Jinks to peek from beneath the "blanket" to score 8 points and end the night with 13.  It was far off the 25.6 point average Jinks accumulated during regular season warfare in scoring 464 points.

Byers' defensive efforts failed to throw his shooting eye off kilter as he fired in 19 points to pace the Blue Devil attack.  His performance was just one of numerous ingredients that made Midvale's 1966 tournament debut an outstanding success.  Diminutive Dan Fox, at 5-4 the shortest man on the court, quarterbacked the Blue Devil steamroller, harrassing and teasing the Indians into trouble.  Chuck DeMattio, while scoring 13 points, pulled down 10 rebounds to lead his team in that category.  Big Bill Hibbs totaled 12 points and Bob Carlisle added 14.  It was Midvale's 3rd consecutive victory over the Indians this season and 12th straight since Gnadenhutten topped the Devils 58-50 December 12, 1961, on the Indian court.  Gnadenhutten (5-14), with Jinks all but completely stopped as a scoring threat, never led.  The closest it got was 4-3 early in the game.

Midvale canned 40.7 percent of its field goal attempts in swishing 22 of 54.  It did an outstanding job of marksmanship from  the foul line, meshing 30 of 37 for 81.1 percent.  The Blue Devils had 8 turnovers (loss of possession) and the Indians 11.
