66 - Strasburg Stings Midvale 6-1 (4-26-66)







Key men in Strasburg's victory over Midvale yesterday were Gary Feller, Dave Keller, John Studer and Gene Bayer.  Bayer did the pitching and the others most of the hitting.

SUGARCREEK - Strasburg (3-1) slugged Midvale (2-3) in the Class A Sectional Baseball Tournament.  Strasburg was scheduled to go against Hiland today.  Strasburg wasted no time in jumping on Midvale moundsman Harvey Byers (1-1) for 3 runs in the 1st inning.  The Tigers added single runs in the 4th, 5th and 7th stanzas, while their hurler, Gene Bayer (3-0), was limiting the  Blue Devils to a lone tally in the first-frame.  In the Tiger 1st, Mike Rieger walked leading off, Gary Feller (3) and John Studer (2) singled and Ed yackey walked.  Two runs came home on Feller's single and one on Studer's.  A hit by Feller (4), a wild pitch and an error gave the Tigers a run in the 4th frame.  Ed Yackey singled (2) leading off the 5th, was sacrificed to 2nd by Don Edie and rode home on Bayer's double (1).  In the 7th, Yackey walked, stole 2nd and scored on a single by Chuck  Jones (1).  Midvale's run came on singles by Lee Eberly (1) and Harvey Byers (1) and a ground out by Hill Hibbs.  Bayer struck out 7 and walked just 1.  All 4 Midvale hits were singles.  Byers walked 5 and struck out 2.
