66 - Garaway Drops Newcomerstown 3-1 (4-18-66)
NEWCOMERSTOWN - Garaway High School's baseball team (3-0-1) continues to get great pitching and timely hitting. The Ray Altier-coached Pirates pushed their record up yesterday with a victory over Newcomerstown (0-4). Greg Troyer (2-0) did the pitching, limiting the Trojans to 4 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 3. The loser was Dave Paulun, with Randy Rudder taking over in the final frame. They were touched for 7 hits, walked 5 and struck out 4. Newcomerstown broke a scoreless tie in the 5th inning as Widder doubled and John Hurst singled. The Pirates tied the count in the 6th on a double (1) by John Frankhauser after Troyer walked and stole second. The deciding runs came in the final frame as Brian Crilow walked, Rich Richardson tripled (1) and Troyer doubled (2).
