62 - Port Washington Squeezes Past Tusky 64-61 (11-28-61)

TUSCARAWAS - Port Washington (2-1) fought off a last half rally by arch rival Tuscarawas (0-2) last night to capture a victory in a battle that was nip-and-tuck all the way.  The Purple Riders of Port Washington opened the game with a 23 point scoring barrage to go 5 up on the Tuscarawas Broncos at the end of the first stanza.  Each team dropped in 10 counters in  the second period to make the score 33-28 at halftime.  The Broncos began to chop away at the Port Washington lead in the third frame, cutting the gap to 3 points at the end of the quarter.  In the wild final period, Tuscarawas rallied to take a 2-point lead with 5 minutes remaining, but Port Washington snapped back into the groove to pull out the victory.  Tom Loader topped the winners with 17 points.  Larry Laisure had 15, and Ken Gay 10 counters.  Dave Peoples had 15,  Fred Burmich 14 and Phil Meese 11 were high for Tuscarawas.  The Port Washington (2-0)-Tuscarawas (1-1) Reserve game was won by Port 40-37.
