62 - Hiland Victimized By Garaway 42-31 (11-26-61)



BERLIN - Leading all the way, the Garaway Pirates (3-0) swept to their third straight victory of the season Saturday night, whipping host Hiland Hawks.  The Pirates broke out on top in the first period, assuming an 8-5 lead, and then led the rest of the way.  They held a 7-point advantage at halftime and increased it to 30-22 at the end of 3 periods.  Hiland threatened midway in the fnial stanza and cut the gap to just 4 points, but Garaway quickly rallied to put the game out of reach.  The game was decided at the foul line where Garaway popped in 21 of 26 foul shots, a solid 80 percent.  Hiland made only 6 bonus tosses for the night.  Neither team hit with much accuracy from the field.  Garaway cashed in on 10 of 35 shots for slightly over 28 percent and Hiland matched the figure with 13 for 47.  In the second half, the Pirates got off only 12 shots in 16 minutes of play as they were forced to rely on foul shots for their points.  Big Dan Bleininger led the way for Coach Glenn Bower's Pirates, hooping 14 points, 10 coming at the foul line.  Roy Yoder managed 12 points, popping in 4 field goals.  Andy Ahijevyeh and Don Hochstetler paced Hiland with 10 counters apiece.  The Hiland Reserves put the hurt on the Garaway Reserves (1-1) 37-25.
