PORT WASHINGTON - The Gnadenhutten Indians (1-0) displayed a fast-running offense and an aggressive defense at Port Washington (1-1) last night to down the Purple Riders.  This was the first game of the 1961-1962 season for the Indians, while Port sneaked by Stone Creek (0-1) 47-46 in their opener Friday.  Brad Kaiser hit for the first points in the contest to give the Indians a quick lead in the first minute of play.  From here on, the Indians never were headed as they piled up an 18-7 lead at the first stop.  Port narrowed the gap to 6 points at the half with a late surge, but the Indians took a 32-26 lead into the locker rooms.  Gnaden showed a well-balanced attack in the third period to pull into a 50-38 lead and then coasted on to the win.  The Indians just had too much height for Port as Coach Ron Sakola's charges controlled both boards and nearly every tip.  Neither team showed too much consistency from the floor, but the Indians hit on 13 of 20 fouls to Port's 6 of 7.  Jim McCreary of Gnadenhutten led all scorers with 20 points as both clubs had 3 men in double figures.  McCreary was followed by Roy Ervin with 17 markers and Kaiser with 16.  Port was led by Tony Nigro with 15, Tom  Loader with 12 and Alvin Fillman with 10.  In the preliminary contest, the Port Reserves (1-0) took the nod over the young Indians (0-1) by a score of 27-23.
