67 - Tuscarawas Valley Upends Hiland 59-48 (2-3-67)








ZOARVILLE - Tuscarawas Valley (5-10) pulled a major upset here last night by whipping the Hiland Hawks (8-9) by 11 points.  The Trojan victory gave them 2 victories in a row, while the Hawk loss pushed them under .500.  The Trojans jumped off to a 4-0 lead and as a result tore out to a 19-12 first period margin.  TV shot 70 percent from the field during the first 8 minutes.  After halftime, the Trojans were resting with a 38-28 margin, which was cut to 46-37 after 3 quarters.  Jim Burkhart had 16 points to pace Tusky Valley.  Dick Harvey had 13, Tom Shroyer 12 and Larry Adams 11.  High for the Hawks were Merle Mullet and Roland Stutzman with 17 and 10 points, respectively.  From the floor, TV hit 21 of 48 for 43 percent while the Hawks made 20 of 51 for 39 percent.  From the line, Tusky Valley had 17 of 22 and Hiland 8 of 16.  The Trojans had 31 rebounds and Adams was top man at 11.  Stutzman had 7 of Hiland's 26.  The victors were charged with 11 turnovers and Hiland 9.

The Hiland Reserves trounced the Tuscarawas Valley Reserves (7-7) 60-29.
