67 - Conotton Valley Romps Over Malvern 67-51 (2-15-67)

Rich Stollar of Malvern handles the basketball in this action in the Hornet's game with Conotton Valley.  Also on the scene are Kenny Andrews (30) of Malvern and Gary Palmer of Conotton Valley.

Conotton Valley's Ken Beamer (25) is fouled by Malvern's Bill Monroe (12) on a field goal attempt.  Dan Wackerly of Malvern and Mike Risley (33) of Conotton Valley are also seen on  the scene.

NEW PHILADELPHIA - Conotton Valley (9-10) trailed but once, 3-2 in its game with Malvern (3-13).  From that point the Rockets continued to up the margin, while holding off several momentary drives by the Hornets.  One came late in the 2nd stanza when Malvern scored 9 straight points to narrow Conotton's lead to 29-23.  Malvern seemed to catch fire at that point when Head Coach Stan  Singleton inserted peppery guard Tim Mastroine into the lineup.  Mastroine scored only 4 points, but proved to be a sparkplug in the Hornet attack.

But, Conotton Valley just had to much basketball savvy to let Malvern upset it.  Ken Beamer, the Rockets' 6-4 forward who totaled over 300 points for the season, led the way for the winners, scoring 20 points.  Conotton's well-balanced offense also featured Gary Palmer with 15 points, Fred Strawser with 11 and Mike Risley with 10.  Kenny Andrews, who came into the Hornet lineup in the 2nd period to turn a fine job of scoring as well as on the boards, topped Malvern with 15 points.  Bill Monroe hit 11 and Jim Yockey, 6-1 Freshman, 10 points.  The Rockets connected on 27 of 63 field goal tries for 42.9 percent and made 13 of 18 from the foul line.  Malvern caged 23 of 85 fielders for 35.4 percent and 5 of 11 foul shots.
