67 - Strasburg Tigers Maul Tuscarawas Broncos 70-40 (2-22-67)

Outnumbered 3 to 1 for this rebound, the basketball is sure to go in possession of the Tigers.  Attempting to haul it in are:  Ed Yackey (53), Tom Hall and Ed Rusk (21), all of Strasburg.  Battling the odds is Les Donehue (40) of Tuscarawas.

Action became concentrated in this phase of the Strasburg-Tusky contest.  Searching for someone to relieve him of the ball is Tusky's Brent Lehigh as he feels the pressure mounting.  Others in the action are Charlie Jones andTracy Knisely (54) of Tusky, John Studer (23) of the Tigers and Butch Reed (14) of the Broncos.

NEW PHILADELPHIA - Nine straight points at the outset of the 2nd period practically sealed Tuscarawas' fate and simultaneously assured Strasburg it was hot on the path of its 20th consecutive triumph.  Leading the surge was the Tigers' All-Ohioan, John Studer, who tallied 7 of the all-important markers.  He scored 11 in the period as the Bengals racked up 19 points to Tuscarawas' five.  Prior to that dash Strasburg (20-0) had to struggle to battle the game Broncos (12-8) on even terms during the 1st period, which ended 11-11.

During the opening stanza the score was deadlocked on 5 occasions with the lead changing hands 2 other times.  Studer, the smooth-working 6-3 Tiger forward, had difficulty finding the range in the 1st period when he connected on but 2 of 8 field goal tries.  His shots were bouncing off the hoop, rolling around and out and it caused the Tiger great some frustration before he turned on the heat in the 2nd by meshing 5 of 7 field tries.  Altogether he collected 26 points, while making 12 of 21 from the floor, 2 of 5 free throws and pulling down 14 rebounds.

Pivotman Ed Yackey came through with his best performance of the tournament, making 12 points and grabbing 10 caroms.  Fred Rausch, who led Tuscarawas' first-period assault with 6 points, was the only Bronco to gain the double figure column.  He had 14 points, all on field goals.  Strasburg cashed 26 goals in 62 tries, for 41.3 percent and hit but 15 of 30 foul line tries.  Tuscarawas made 16 of 56 from the floor for a cool 28.5 percent and hit only 8 of 25 at the charity mark.  The Tigers held a big 36-18 rebounding margin.
