67 - Dennison St. Mary's Waves And Garaway Pirates Seek "Trip" To Steubenville

NEW PHILADELPHIA - Upper bracket finalists, Dennison St. Mary's (18-2) and Garaway (17-3) tangle tonight at eight.  Up for grabs is a berth in the Steubenville Class A District Tournament next week in the Steubenville Diocisan Community Area.  Opponents in this bracket will be the winner of the Mingo Junction (14-6) and Mt. Pleasant (15-4).  These 2 clubs also collide Friday night at nine.  An interesting sidenote tonight is the fact that Head Coach Glenn Bower will attempt to steer his Pirate ship over the Blue Waves, who he once served as head mentor.  In fact, Bower was in command when the Waves rolled undefeated in the 1962-63 season before bowing to Adena in District play.

In contrast, the power of the St. Mary's club lies in the balance attack of size, speed and accurate outside shooting, while Garaway's strength is featured in ball handling ability to pick the good shot and forcing opposing defenses into making mistakes.  St. Mary's attack is paced by All-Ohio Tom Crosswhite, Tuscarawas County's leading scorer (563) with an outstanding rebound reputation.  Chris Tolloty, Mike Bonaduce and Mike Bracone perform guard duties that can be freely stated, hard to match anywhere, anytime.  Answering the call for the forward spots will be Glen Carter, leader of the fast break attack and 6-6 Steve Moeller who supports Crosswhite under the boards.

Leading the Pirates' bid will be Don Richardson (249) who lends stability to the younger crew of Bucs.  Don hits from all angles and is a consistent threat.  Errol and Tim Miller have both rang the bell for well over 200 markers this season and can give any defense fits.  The pair has equal ball handling ability.  Rounding out the probable starting lineup for the Bucs will be Rich Richardson and Mike Gerber.  Gerber is probably the smallest starter in the tournament, but stands tall in the play-making department and is an artist at ball stealing.
