67 - Port Washington Comes Up Short Against Madison 78-77 (2-10-67)








PORT WASHINGTON - The Port Washington Purple Riders (11-7) just about pulled off a big upset here last night, losing to Guernsey County power, Madison (16-1) by a point.  The Purple Riders came close to victory in the final seconds with many opportunities to cash in on the winners.  Madison had taken its victory margin on a 3-point play.  Port managed 1 lead during the contest, that with 15 seconds left at 77-75.

Tim Page led the Purple Riders scoring 23 points.  He was followed by Jerry Stephens with 18,Jeff Huston 16 and Greg Bender 10.  Jim Hagan, who scored 6 points before leaving the game in the 3rd period with a sprained ankle, might have changed the Port attack.  Chuck Wolf led Madison with 24 points, while Ron Taden had 21,Larry Gray 14 and Don  Lyons 12.  Madison has now won 15 in a row.  The Purple Riders have finished out their regular schedule for the season.

The night was a sweep for Madison, as the Madison Reserves tripped up the Port Washington Reserves (6-12) 36-28 in the 1st game of the night.
