67 - Tuscarawas Tops Zane Trace 58-48 (1-31-67)
CAMBRIDGE - Tuscarawas High School Basketball Team (9-7) captured a 10-point verdict at Zane Trace last night in one of the most unusual contests of the season. Exactly half of the total points were scored from the foul line as Tusky canned 26 and Trace 32. Head Coach Lyle Matlick was not displeased with the amount of personals called as he felt the officiating was consistent and necessary to keep the game under control. Both combinations suffered through one of their coldest nights of the season in the shooting department. Zane Trace found the basket had a lid on it as they could only manage 8 of 48 for a mere 17 percent. Tusky found the range somewhat more often, but was still off as it rimmed 16 of 58 for a cool 28 percent. The Broncos led 14-10 at the end of the 1st quarter, but fell behind in the 2nd as Zane connected on 16 of 18 fouls to take the lead 30-25 at halftime. In the 3rd quarter, Tusky forged ahead for keeps when it limited the Tracers to 5 points. Fred Rausch led the Tuscarawas attack with 18, followed by Brent Lehigh with 14. Both led their team in rebounds with 9 each as the Mattick-coached men outboarded their foes, 31-28. Al Baird, with 13 and Bob Larrick 11, paced Zane Tace.
The Zane Trace Reserves got the best of the tough Tuscarawas Reserves (11-5) 41-37.
