67 - Garaway Bops Midvale 54-31 (2-3-67)
SUGARCREEK - Garaway (5-1) (14-2) presented Midvale (4-2) (11-7) with a sticky defense, holding the Blue Devils to a mere 7 buckets, while tearing the oppositions defense apart, en route to a 23-point triumph. The Pirates,in cementing their bid for 2nd place in the Tuscarawas County Class A League, never had any problems, managing leads of 10-2, 22-10 and 38-17 at the quarter stops. Errol Miller and Don Richardson formed a one-two punch for Garaway, scoring 15 and 14 points, respectively. Mike DeMattio and Dan Carlisle split 20 points for Midvale honors.
From the floor, Garaway shot 23 of 48 for 48 percent, while the Blue Devils made 9 of 56 for a frigid 16 percent. Garaway did not attempt a foul shot until 7:20 remained in the 3rd period. The Bucs outrebounded Midvale 28 to 26. Tim Miller had 9 for the victors, while Carlisle pulled down 7 for the Blue Devils. Garaway was called for 10 turnovers and Midvale 11.
The Midvale Reserves (11-7) nipped the Garaway Reserves (11-4) 41-38.
