67 - Dennison St. Mary's Buries Conotton Valley 87-47 (2-21-67)

The trailing Conotton Rocket, Gary Palmer, seems to think trying to jump as high as 6-8 Tom Crosswhite is a bit useless.  The big St. Mary's pivotman goes high for another 2 pointer.

Rick Ridgeway of Dennison St. Mary's and Harold Shultz of Conotton Valley make sure they get at least a jump ball for their efforts as neither is about to forfeit his right to the basketball.  Glenn Carter (30) of St. Mary's is in the background.

NEW PHILADELPHIA - Dennison St. Mary's most likely has 2 of the best, but most underrated guards in the state.  Of course it's difficult to be in the spotlight when you have a teammate like 6-8 Tom Crosswhite.  Crosswhite continued his high-scoring, shot-blocking play last night, but front court men, Chris Tolloty and Mike Bonaduce, also turned in another fine effort.  Tolloty scored 14 points, swishing 7 of 8 field goal attempts and Bonaduce connected for 13, including 6 of 10 from the field and one for one at the charity stripe.  Meanwhile, Glenn Carter was pounding 15 points through the nets to provide a 3-way backup for another great Crosswhite performance.  Before leaving the game with 3:18 remaining to play he scored 29 points and pulled down 17 rebounds.  Crosswhite's markers came on 13 goals in 15 attempts and 3 of 5 foul shots.  After the 1st period, in which he hit 5 of 7 floor attempts, Crosswhite meshed 8 straight, a streak he will carry into Thursday night's Sectional Co-Championship game against Garaway.

Ken Breamer, Conotton Valley's 6-4 Senior, wrapped up his scholastic career with a 22-point performance to end the season with a 361 total.  Teammate Gary Palmer added 12.  St. Mary's (18-2) raced to a 12-1 lead in the 1st period and was never headed in its victory bid, despite some valiant efforts by the Rockets who closed the gap to 14 points twice in the 2nd frame.  In the last quarter St. Mary's outscored Conotton 26-5.  Altogether, St. Mary's collected 39 fielders in 67 tries for 58.2 percent and made 9 of 18 from the foul line.  Conotton Valley (10-10), on the other hand, could cage but 17 goals in 83 attempts for 26.9 percent, while cashing 15 of 22 charity tosses.
