67 - Tuscarawas County Class A Scoring Update

Dennison St. Mary's High School (Blue Waves) - Chris Tolloty joins the 200 Club (201)

Port Washington High School (Purple Riders) - Tim Page joins the 200 Club (212)

DOVER - Dennison St. Mary's 6-7 pivot man Tom Crosswhite is Tuscarawas County's 1966-67 scoring champion.  There's no trophy for the feat, but it's a nice honor to achieve.  Crosswhite totaled 503 points over the 18-game route to average 27.9 per game in waging a torried battle with Strasburg's John Studer.  Studer, the Tigers' 6-3 forward, fired in 489 tallies for a 27.1 per game standard.  He had more field goals than Crosswhite, but the Blue Wave ace made the difference at the foul line with a 109-81 margin.

It is undoubtedly one of the most heated scoring duels in the county's history between 2 of the greatest scholastic performers ever to play on county courts.  Gnadenhutten's Dan Jinks captured 3rd place honors with 429 points, a 23.8 game average.  Denny Capozella, one of the few bright lights in a dim Dover St. Joseph's season, was 4th with 311, a 17.2 average, Bill Kohl of Gnadenhutten 5th with 282 points for a 15.6 standard and Bob  Carlisle of Midvale 6th at 280, a 15.5 average.

Team statistics show undefeated Strasburg with the best offensive and defensive averages.  The Tigers have poured in an average of 80.3 points a game, while limiting its foes to but 44.1 points per outing.  St. Mary's maintained the 2nd leading offensive spot, scoring 73.8 an outing.  Garaway is the 2nd best defensive unit, holding 18 opponents to 47.4 points a game, while the Blue Waves are 3rd at 49.6.
