64 - Stone Creek Tops Newcomerstown 52-43 (2-7-64)
STONE CREEK - Charles Huggins' Stone Creek Panthers (11-6) whipped Newcomerstown (6-8) here Friday night. The Trojans of Coach John Haugh led 37-36 with 5:14 left in the game. And it was then that Huggins came up with his "secret weapon." The "find" was in the person of Freshman Tim Baab who had seen only sparse varsity duty this season. But he played like a seasoned veteran against the trojans, getting 6 points in the final frame. It was his field goal that put the Panthers in front, 38-37, to stay. Verle Endlich followed with a deuce and the Panthers were off and running. Endlich ended as the top scorer for Stone Creek, getting 19 points. Jim Wherley had 13. Keith Stoffer of Newcomerstown took game honors with 24. The Panthers were 20 of 49 from the floor and 12 of 24 in charities. The Trojans hit on 17 action shots in 48 tries and made 9 of 13 foul attempts. Stone Creek now has won more games than any season since a 13-9 slate in 1958-59. The Stone Creek Reserves (9-6) stalked the Newcomerstown Reserves for another win 36-22.
