DOVER - Either State ranked Strasburg or Dennison will represent Tuscarawas County in next week's Regional Tournament at Canton.  Dennison, under Dover native Tom Connor, gained a spot opposite the mighty Tigers by edging Stone Creek's "Cinderella Darlings" 32-29 Thursday night before about 1,500 fans in Dover High gymnasium.  The Strasburg-Dennison contest will start at 8PM Saturday.  Doors will be ajar by 7.  The victor will meet the lower bracket winner of the Canton District Tournaments.

The initial quarter spelled the difference in the outcome of the Dennison - Stone Creek fight, the Railroaders  outscoring the Charlie Huggins-coached Panthers 11-6.  Stone Creek (14-9) cut a pair of points from that deficit by intermission, 17-14 and played the Railroaders (12-9) on even terms in the final 2 periods,  trailing  24-21 after 3 stops.  Stone Creek was in front just once 2-0, as Vic Turner sank a 15-foot  push shot at 7:54.  The score was knotted 2-2, 4-4 and 6-6, Nick Cummings putting Dennison  ahead to stay at 2:35 by sinking both ends of a 2-shot charity play.  Cummings, playing despite a chipped bone below the knee, fired through a fielder on a spin around jumper at the key seconds later and teammate Greg Goodrich popped in a foul at 1:27 to give Dennison its 1st period bulge.  Cummings, a 6-0 Senior and a 3-year veteran was a workhorse for Dennison, taking game scoring honors with 11 points and topping all rebounders with 10 grabs.  Jim Wherley paced the Panthers in both departments, getting 10 markers and hauling down 5 rebounds.  The Panthers, who have captured the hearts of many with their fine ballhandling and desire, were a bit  too cautious, taking only 25 action shots.  They made 9 for 36 percent, the same as the Railroaders, but Dennison took 36 shots and canned 13.  From the foul lines, the Railroaders were 6 for 14 and the Panthers 11 for 22.

The Panthers can hold their heads high; however, for they advanced farther than any other team  in the history of the school, ending with a fine 14 wins for the best mark in several seasons, topping the 13-9 slates of the 1957-58 and 1958-59 aggregations.  Dean Green proved to be a valuable asset to Dennison, going into the game early in the 1st frame and doing a fine job the rest of the way.  Dennison's biggest lead of the night was 5 points, its 1st period margin and 28-23 with 2:27 left when the Panthers began "cutting  loose" to narrow the deficit to the final 3 markers.
