64 - Garaway Slams Baltic 84-40 (2-7-64)




SUGARCREEK - Garaway (6-2) (11-6) forced Baltic (0-8) (0-17) to end its season the same way it started---with a loss.  And there were 15 setbacks in between.  Stan Berkman's Eagles; however, played a whale of a game in the 1st frame, using the Pirates' own "possession" game.  Garaway nevertheless led 12-11 at the 1st stop.  The Glenn Snyder-coached Pirates put on a tight press in the 2nd stanza, forcing several turnovers and turning 7 into baskets.  Garaway, which played without the services of slick Jim Young, hit on 37 of 73 action shots for 51 percent and made 10 of 21 charities.  Baltic was 15 of 40 for 37 percent and 10 of 18.  Randy Miller took scoring honors for Garaway with 19 points.  Don Deetz had 16.  Dan Andreas and Bill Richardson both got 12.  Gus Regula had 10 for Baltic.  The Pirates will wind up pre-tournament warfare tonight at Strasburg.  They tripped the Tigers 60-45 January 17, the only loss in 17 games for Strasburg.  Garaway (6-9) blew off Baltic (2-13) in the Reserve game 81-37.
