64 - Tusky Valley Knocks Off Tusky 72-61 (2-14-64)

NEW PHILADELPHIA - Diminutive speed merchants Dave Widder, Paul Shipbaugh and Ron Wolfe were the heroes for Tuscarawas Valley (10-8).  The 3 were all over the floor with their ballhawking ability and combined for 47 of the Trojan points.  Tuscarawas (10-11) was game, but was simply outclassed.  Although the battle was close most of the way, the Trojans appeared to be toying with the pesky Broncos.  A bit ragged at the start, Ken Gold's club took a 17-12 lead at the 1st stop, were ahead 32-28 by intermission and held a 52-44 gap going into the final frame.  The Broncos of Dick Ronald fought, but ran out of gas and fell behind 72-51 with just over 2 minutes left in the tiff.  Widder, a "driving fool," took game scoring honors with 26 points.  If he wasn't successful on his drives he nevertheless would be fouled by the Broncos and then cash in from the charity stripe.  He made 6 fielders and 14 of 17 free tosses.  Shipbaugh kept Gold content in the 1st half with 12 of his 14 points before running into personal foul trouble.  Wolfe "rode" the Broncos up and down the floor and contributed 7 points to the total.  Trojan Bob Burris ended with 11 points, getting his own followups and a pair of jumpers.  Gary Ferren, 6-5 Trojan, got 10 points, but still didn't look up to par after being out several weeks beause of illness.  Russ McGlothlin and Phil Caldwell were the "strong boys" for Tuscarawas.  McGlothlin, very adept on spin around jumpers, worked for 14 points and hauled in 8 rebounds.  Caldwell was the Broncos' answer to Wolfe, playing all over the court on defense and driving in for 15 markers.  Tuscarawas Valley has now won 4 in a row.
