64 - Dover St.Joseph's Mugs Gnaden 5-4 (4-29-64)

Gnadenhutten High School (Indians) Junior Pitcher - Jim Jinks (1-1) was the opening moundsman for the Indians.

GNADENHUTTEN - Dover St. Joseph's came from behind to nip Gnadenhutten (2-2) here Wednesday in  opening play of the Class A Sectional Baseball Tournament.  Senior Don Lamonica was the hero for the Art Teynor's Ramblers, receiving credit for the victory in relief of Sophomore Mickey McCracken and lashing out 2 hits, including a 2-run double in the final frame.  St. Joseph's had taken a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning, but Ted Martin's Indians came back with 2 in their half of the 4th and plated another pair in the 6th to take a commanding 4-1 margin.  But the Ramblers battled back, getting 2 in their half of the 6th to narrow the count to 4-3 and then got the winning pair in the 7th with a single and moved up on a safety by Terry Bassetti.  Don Garrett (1-0), a southpaw, took  over for Tribe hurler Jim Jinks (1-1) and walked the left-hand swinging Joe Zuchegno intentionally to fill the bases.  Lamonica foiled the strategy by coming through with a resounding double to chase home Tecco and  Bassetti and a victory.  McCracken worked until the 6th before giving way to Lamonica.  The 2 gave up 5 hits, walked 2 and fanned 3.  Jinks and Garrett were touched for 9 safeties, passed 3 and whiffed 3.  Zuchego had a double for St. Joseph's and Bruce Kohl smacked a triple (2) for Gnadenhutten.
