Port Washington High School (Purple Riders) - Coach Don Durham (21-43)

PORT WASHINGTON - Don Durham, head basketball coach at Port Washigton High for the past 3 years, has resigned effective at the end of the present school term.  Durham, who made the announcement Sunday night, said he was uncertain where he will be working next season.  The Purple Riders posted a  21-43 slate under Durham, but were 11-10 in 1962-63 for the best mark at the school in 6 years.  This past season Port Washington was 5-13.  Durham was chosen from among 50 applicants for the Port Washington post vacated by Dick King who presently is top man at Centerburg High.  He is a graduate of Willington High (1952) and Ashland College (1961).  He had a tryout with the former Boston Braves following his graduation from high school, but was drafted for military service and spent the next 3 years as a member of the U.S. Army Signal Corps at Fort Lewis, Washington.
