64 - Midvale Ousts Malvern 7-1 (4-29-64)

GNADENHUTTEN - On Wednesday, the Midvale Blue Devils (3-0) slapped the Malvern Green Hornets in the Class A Sectional Baseball Tournament.  Gene Belba (2-0) went the route in tossing defending champion Midvale to its win, surrendering just 3 hits---all singles---walking 1 and fanning eight.  Tom Orcutt was the loser, allowing 5 safeties, passing one 1 whiffing 3.  Midvale played errorless ball, but Malvern committed 6 miscues.  Coach Pete Hilliard's Blue Devils got a single tally in the 2nd stanza and then got 3 in each the 3rd and 5th.  Malvern's lone marker was chased across in the final frame.  Don Ickes slammed a 2-run Home Run (2) for Midvale in the 5th inning and teammate Hawkins (2) had a double.
