61 - Garaway Tops Baltic 58-41 In First Tilt (11-19-60)

SUGARCREEK - The Garaway Pirates (1-0) launched their 1960-1961 campaign on a successful note here last night when they turned back Tuscarawas County rival Baltic (0-1).  After dueling the Eagles to a 9-9 deadlock at the end of the first period the Pirates spurted into the lead for keeps as the second stanza opened.  Paramount in the Buc's drive was the shooting of Dan Bleininger who sank 4 straight goals to put them out of the rage of the invaders.  Veteran Tom Andreas paced the victory with 13 points, while roy Yoder connected for 11 and Bleininger 11.  Larry Lautenschleger was the big man in the Eagle attack with 15 points.  Garaway achieved a 41.7 percentage from the field as it connected for 20 of 48 goals.  Baltic's shooting was below par for the opening-night performance as it made only 12 of 45 for 27 percent.  Garaway returns to action tonight when it travels to Coshocton County to tangle with perennial power Warsaw.  The Reserve game was not reported to The Daily Reporter.
