61 - Garaway Edges Baltic 8-7 (9-13-60)

BALTIC - Garaway (2-0) (2-1) took another step toward a successful defense of its Tuscarawas County Fall Baseball League title yesterday when it defeated Baltic for its second straight League victory without defeat.  The Pirates lost a non-league game to Hiland 8-7 last Friday in a game not reported by the Daily Reporter.  Baltic (1-1) defeated Stone Creek in a previous outing also not reported by the Daily Reporter.  Tom Andreas (1-0) dashed cold water on a Baltic rally in the sixth inning  of yesterday's game here.  The Senior veteran relieved starting Bob Raber (1-0) after the Eagle's Larry Lautenschleger had smacked a bases-loeaded double to clear the bases.  He caused the next batsman, Charlie McPherson, to pop up and had little trouble in the final frame.  The Garaway hurlers combined for 6 strikeouts, walked 6 and permitted 9 hits.  Eagle pitcher Larry Lautenschleger (0-1) was touched for 10 hits, while striking out 10 and walking only 3.  Bob Tidrick paced Garaway at the plate with a Home Run and double, while Jarret Gray drove in 3 runs, one on a Home Run and 2 on a single in the first inning.  Lynn Showers added 2 singles.  Rube Mullett connected for a double for Baltic.  Going into the final inning Garaway had an 8-3 lead when Baltic solved Raber's offerings and collected 4 runs before Andreas came in to nip the rally and save Raber's victory.
