60 - TV Upends Hiland 4-1 In District (5-14-60)

SUGARCREEK - Tuscarawas County was assured representation in next week's Class "A" Regional Baseball Tournament at North Canton following yesterday's District semi-finals here.  County diamond kingpins Tuscarawas Valley and Tuscarawas, both emerged victorious.  The 2 teams will clash for the Regional Trip and District Championship Monday afternoon at 1:30 (Slow Time) at Community Park.  A first-inning outburst accounted for all of TV's runs.  From there on out the Trojans (9-1) failed to touch the offerings of Hiland's Linus Miller.  Ron Lake led off the big inning for Tuscarawas Valley when he was hit by the pitcher.  Mike Widder and Al Cerett walked to fill the bases.  Cleanup man Rod Cropper did just that - - cleaning off the bags with a smashing double.  He then scored on Ed Lundenberger's single.  Hiland scored its lone run in the fifth inning when Mishler doubled and scored on Gene Miller's triple.  Clarence Cantrill went the distance on the mound for Tuscarawas Valley, fanning 5 and walking 2.  Hiland's Miller struck out 11 and walked 4.  The weather interfered with  Hiland's bid in the bottom of the 7th inning.  With one man out it began raining and sleeting, forcing the game to be called.
