61 - Gnaden Tops Stone Creek 20-1 (9-13-60)
STONE CREEK - Pounding the ball with authority, Gnadenhutten's latest baseball edition (1-0) opened its new season on a victorious note yesterday belting Stone Creek (0-1) in its first county league Fall encounter. The win also marked the debut of Gnaden's new coach Ted Martin who returned to his alma mater from Newcomerstown. Dave Struchen (1-0) was the winning pitcher, allowing only one hit over the first 6 innings before being relieved by John Rauzi (0-0) in the last frame. The pair fanned 12. Wallace (0-1) and Sauser (0-0) were on the losing mound. Carl Dichler had a perfect day for Gnaden, slashing 4 hits in as many trips, including a double. John Rauzi and Gary Conway each collected bases-loaded triples and Larry Rentsch had a double, while Jim McCreary had 3 for 5. The Indians collected 16 hits all told in registering the win. Gnaden will be playing all games on the road this season.
