60 - Port Athletic Teams Honord At Fete (5-19-60)
PORT WASHINGTON - More than 75 persons attended the Port Washington athletic banquet last night as they honored this year's club and heard former All-American Robert McCullough warn the underclassmen as well as Senior athletes that "You must sacrifice a lot if you wish to participate in athletics." A number of awards was presented to Purple Rider athletes, but the bulk of the loot went to Dan Kinsey, John Landon and Jim Bender. Kinsey was presented the Bates Metal foul shooting trophy, Hagan the Salem-Washington faculty rebounding award, and Jim Bender the "most valuable player" award. In addition to the athletes who received awards, Coach Richard King also presented awards to the varsity cheerleaders and junior varsity cheerleaders. Paul Glazer of the Port Booster Club presented 6 Senior awards. This group included John Landon, Curt Johns, Larry Hagan, Dan Kinsey, Charles Mayse and Harry Kenney.
