61 - Gnaden Walks Over Garaway 5-4 (10-4-60)

SUGARCREEK - Coach Ted Martin, in his first year at his alma mater has his Indians (5-1) within sight of the Fall baseball crown following Gnaden's victory over defending champion Garaway (4-3) (4-4) last night.  Martin's band of Indians have now won 5 games and need only to win one of the 2 remaining games - at Port Washington Thursday and Baltic Monday - to wrap up the Fall high school county title.  Gnaden "walked" to the victory last night as John Weaver collected a base on balls with the bags loaded in the seventh to get credit for driving in the winning run.  Overall, Gnaden was issued 10 walks by 2 Garaway pitchers who had allowed only 2 hits over the 7-inning contest.  Dan Bleininger (1-1) was the starter for Garaway with Tom Andreas (1-2) coming on in the seventh and allowing the bases-jammed walk.  The pair fanned 7.  Gary Conaway (1-0) was the starter for Gnaden with John Rauzi (2-0) relieving in the sixth and picking up the win.  The duo allowed 3 hits, walked 3 and fanned 5.
