Tuscarawas Valley (8-1) became the first team to advance from the Sectional to the Class "A" District Tournament yesterday when it defeated Dover St. Joseph's at Community Park in Sugarcreek. St. Joseph's picked up its lone run in the first inning of yesterday's contest. Lou Monticelli singled to drive in Mickey Ledne, who reached base on a fielder's choice, and then stole second and third. TV, which was up first, went ahead for keeps when it scored 2 runs on 2 Rambler errors and a triple (his 2nd of the year) by Clarence Cantrill. In the third inning Rod Cropper tripled (also his 2nd) to drive in Mike Widder, who reached base on an error and advanced to second on Cantrill's sacrifice. The Trojans concluded their scoring in the 7th inning when Widder hit his third single of the year and then scored on 2 errors. The end of tournament action for the Ramblers also spelled the end of the season for first baseman Jack Evans. He suffered a broken thumb while fielding a ball. Monticelli went the distance for the Ramblers, striking out 10 and walking one. His teammates committed 4 errors. Cantrill (3-1) was the winning moundsman. He fanned 9 (17), walked one (6). The Trojans were charged with 2 errors.
