61 - Gnaden Knocks Off First Place Garaway 6-5 (9-16-60)

SUGARCREEK - Gnadenhutten (2-0) moved into the Tuscarawas County Fall baseball lead yesterday, handing the previous front-running Garaway Pirates (2-1) (2-2) a major setback.  The Gnaden combine of coach Ted Martin made everything count.  Outhit 9-7 and committing 5 errors to Garaway's 2, Gnaden came through with a hard earned win, including the spiking of a Pirate rally in the final inning as relief hurler John Rauzi (0-0) fanned the last batter with 2 men on base.  Gary Conaway (1-0) started for Gnaden and went 4 and one-third innings before Rauzi took over.  The pair allowed 9 hits.  Tom Andreas (1-1) went the distance for Garaway. Andreas was also the standout hitter of the day for both clubs, collecting 4 hits, 2 of which were good for a Home Run and a double.  Bob Tidrick had a triple for the losers.  Carl Dichler had 2 singles for the Indians and Rauzi had 2 hits, one going for three bases.
