BERLIN - Hiland's Hawks (1-0) sported an overwhelming height advantage when Stone Creek (0-1) invaded here last night and launched its season by rolling to a 78-45 victory. It was the 22nd straight defeat for Stone Creek. Andy Ahiyewych was the big thorn in the Panther's hide. The big 6-4 center controlled both boards and led the Hawks with 19 points. Hiland rambled to a 19-4 lead at the end of the first period, and, although the Panthers recuperated somewhat in the final periods too much damage had already been done. The Hawks displayed a well balanced attack with Phil Miller scoring 13 points, Gerald Miller 14 and Dave Mast 10. Setting the scoring pace for the Panthers was Gale Sauser with 15 points. Hiland meshed 31 of 66 field goal attempts for 46 percent and made 17 of 23 foul shots, while Stone Creek managed only 13 goals in 51 tries for 25.6 percent. It made 19 of 33 foul shots. Hiland (1-0) blasted Stone Creek (0-1) 57-14 in the Reserve game.
