Port Washington's Purple Riders (1-3) (5-4) gained revenge for a previous defeat last night as they upset the Midvale Blue Devils (5-0) (7-3) in a non-league game at Port Washingon. Playing without the rebounding services of big Ronnie Weaver who was absent because of the death of a relative, Midvale made a valiant bid for victory the first half, but fell behind the last two periods to absorb its third setback in 10 games. Coach Bray Toot's Purple Riders were in front 22-17 at the first period's end, but Midvale took over 33-32 at half-time before a third quarter spurt put Port Washington out in the lead 51-44 going into the final frame. A three-pronged scoring attack unleashed by Port Washinton had Ed Bates tallying 17 points and Paul Frank and Tom Jones each hitting for 16 as the Riders won their fifth game as against four defeats. Coach Pete Hilliard's Blue Devils were sparked by Dick Leggett's 19 points, while Bob Zontini contributed 14 markers. The Port Washington Reserves (8-1) made it a complete night as they picked up their 8th win and their 6th straight 54-45 over the Midvale Reserves.
