Baltic Eliminates Port Washington 71-56 (3-1-54)
Port Washington (13-9) gave it a good try, but the Riders fell sharply in the third period when Baltic raced to a commanding lead. Paul Frank and little Fred Welsch lifted Port Washington to a 17-9 first quarter lead and kept them up in the drivers' seat through most of the second quarter as Wayne Everhart, Tom Ott and Andy Hoffman carried Baltic back into the picture and gave the Eagles a 31-29 edge just at halftime. Ken Huston began connecting for the Riders in the third stanza, but his eight points had only three more added to it while Baltic, paced by Errol Jacobs, connected for 22 and grabbed a 53-40 lead going into the final stanza. Port rallied at the outset of the closing stanza with Larry Combs and Ken Huston cutting the edge to 54-46, but Jim Wallace slipped underneath the basket to score three quick field goals for the Eagles and the heat was off. Jacobs paced Baltic with 19, Ott had 16 and Wallace 12 while Ken Huston had 18 and Paul Frank 14 for the Purple Riders.
