Bob Welsch tossed a four-hitter for Port Washington yesterday as the Purple Riders eliminated the Bolivar Cardinals from the county high school baseball tourney by snaring a 7-1 victory. The game, a consolation bracket fray, was played at Stone Creek. Welsch fanned 10 Cardinals and walked only two in registering the victory and led the Riders at the plate with a triple and single. Dale Veley had a double and single for the winners who had a total of seven hits. Renner and Franks shared mound duties for Bolivar and combined to strike out 10 batters while walking eight. The game was called at the end of six innings because of darkness. Baltic earned the right to meet the Riders in the consolation bracket by defeating Sugarcreek-Shanesville 3-2 yesterday. The Eagles were shunted into the consolation bracket when they were defeated by Gnadenhutten last week.
