Photo: CAGE CARNIVAL OPENS. The Tuscarawas County Class B tourney opened at Memorial Hall last night and settled down for a two week's stay. Daily Reporter Photographer Ralph McKee picked himself a perch and began recording action with his camera. Don Levengood of Dundee lets go with a jump shot as he moves past Port Washington's Gary Dichler at left while Ed Bates and Paul Frank of the Purple Riders get set under the basket for a possible rebound.

The Bulldogs (4-15)were hard to handle in the opening stanza and they matched Port Washington (15-6) point-for-point in that first eight minutes as the period ended in a 12-12 deadlock. Ed Bates, whose driving jump shot kept the Purple Riders in the saddle in the opening stanza, spurred Port Washington onto a rally in the second canto and Coach Bray Toot's charges gradually pulled away from the Pups to amass a 38-22 advantage at half time. Paul Frank and Tom Jones helped out in that period while they also came in for a little aid in the third stanza when both teams battled on almost even terms. Bob Baker and Don Levengood led Dundee's bid to get back into the contest, but Port held a 51-33 lead going into the stretch.

TEAMS BATTLE EVENLY
*
The two teams again battled evenly in the final canto, but the lapse in the second period cost Dundee and hopes it harbored for an upset victory. The Pups were cold from the field through most of the game except for a brief time in the second quarter when Baker potted four field goals to account for eight of Dundee's 10 points in that period. The little guard led Dundee's attack with 16 markers while Levengood had 15 and Gary Siemmer added 10. Ed Bates posted 20 for the Purple Riders while Tom Jones collected 19 and Paul Frank added 16. Port now meets Strasburg's undefeated league champions in the feature game on the Friday night card at 9 o'clock.
