67 - Strasburg Wins On Lakeland Error In The 8th Inning 7-6 (4-11-67)

STRASBURG - Strasburg's diamond crew (2-0) remained unbeaten with an 8th Inning win over Lakeland (4-1) yesterday on the Tiger field.  The Gary Caviness coached crew went down to its 1st defeat of the season.  Another win appeared certain for the Red Raiders as pitcher, Jeff Bachtel didn't allow the Tigers a hit until the 6th inning.  Ed Yackey, Tigers' leftfielder spoiled the no-hit bid when he cracked a harmless single (1), but the Tigers trailed 6-0 going into the bottom half of the seventh.  Bachtel tired and Strasburg knotted the count with an explosive 6 run inning, highlighted by 2 baggers from Mike Donahue (1) and Paul Samsa (1).

Gene Bayer (0-0) started on the mound for the victors,  followed by Tom Ferris (1-0) and Tom Newton (0-0) in the 5th and John Studer (1-0) in the 7th.  Studer received credit for  the win in the 8th as Gary Feller sliced a 2 out single (1).  When attempting to steal 2nd, he raced all the way home on miscues by the Raider infield.
