DOVER - For his academic achievement during the 2nd term, an area student of Wittenberg University was among the 50 various sport performers who have been named "Scholar-Athletes." Frank Welling, a Senior footballer from Stasburg, was one of 7 who scored a straight-A average. Dean DeMattio, former Midvale athletic star, was also named as one of 16 football members who maintained an above B average.
First it was Tusky, now its Midvale which will close another chapter of fine athletic achievements as May 10 will be the last all-sports banquet for the Blue Devil athletes. A string a mile long wouldn't measure the line of fine athletes turned out by the "Devil" squads and it wll take a long time to forget some of the excellent teams that provided thrills and excitement for area fans.
