67 - Down The Line With Ed Smith

DOVER - According to Garaway High School Principal Racey Morris, secretary for the Tri-County League, this proposed new conference is definitely still in existence.  It was reported earlier the conference had folded before it got its feet on the ground.  But, Says Morris, "This is not true.  It was said that due to the cancelation of athletics at Indian Valley schools the new league could not, or would not exist.  This is to the contrary and it was because of the above statement the ideas for the new league developed."  Morris stated plans have never been dropped and the conference consists of:

Garaway Pirates
Hiland Hawks
Indian Valley School or Schools
Newcomerstown Trojans
Ridgeway Generals

These schools are presently scheduling each other as much as possible for the coming season.  The 1968-69 season will definitely find full scale league operations.  Tuscarawas Valley and Strasburg would definitely have made this a well balanced organization, but each has committed itself to the Stark County Senate League.  The possibility of some new members could  make this a much stranger organization.

Strasburg's Ron Lab is slated for a 1st string berth at 3rd base for Ashland College where he also won his Varsity letter in football the past season.

Athletic Director Glen Bower of Garaway announcd he is negotiating a game at Arcanum for next basketball season.  It could be an overnight treat for his Pirates and just imagine...having the runner-up and State champs on your schedule.  (Gotta give him credit.  It takes good competition to make good teams.)  Glen has also added Bridgeport and Lakeland to provide an interesting year ahead for Garaway fans.
