67 - On The Diamond - Gnadenhutten Indians

Gnadenhutten's baseball club which is loaded with veteran performers are shown sporting new uniforms.  Team members:  Head Coach Ted Martin, Bill Kohl, Mike Kail, Don Finnicum, Wayne Martin, Ken Huprich, Dan Jinks, Dave Moore, Dick Rice, John Fivecoat, Greg Hamilton, Bruce Finnicum, Darrell  Laughlin, Bob Long, Dick Brown, Ken Kuhl, John Albright, Doc Moore and Roger Huebner.

DOVER - Head Coach Ted Martin pulls no punches when he says the ultimate goal of his Indians is to win the State title.  A large group of seasoned veterans have been working inside for a long time and says Martin, "The arms are stong and it won't take long outside to whip them into shape."  Much of the success will depend on the strength of southpaw Bill Kohl who is expected to carry the brunt of the pitching load.  Kohl is starting his 4th season of Varsity pitching and has been credited with some top performances.  The catching duties will be filled by Dan Jinks who wields a pretty good bat and is another capable performer.  Gnaden is expected to be sound at all positions as Wayne Martin at 1st, Dave or Steve Moore at second.  Greg Hamilton shortstop and Roger Heubner at 3rd all have previous experience.

The outfield seems set as Mike Kail, Don Finnicum, Bob Long, Ken Kohl and Dick Rice are of equal ability.  Others fighting for outfield berths are Darrel Laughlin, Dick Brown and John Fivecoat, while John Albright and Ken Ruprich are able backup infielders.  Bruce Finnicum will support Jinks behind the plate.  Introduction of the players was held last night in the Gnaden gymnasium as new uniforms were unveiled, baseball movies were shown and Coach Martin briefed Pony and Little League players along with his Varsity squad.  A 16 game slate opens on April 3rd with the Ridgewood Generals and closes on May 22nd at Scio with the Panthers.
