67 - North-South All-Star Game Gets Go Sign From NCAA

MARION - The National Collegiate Athletic Association has approved the playing of the Annual North-South All-Star Ohio High School Basketball Game.  Marion Harding High School Coach Dan Baker said he had received word of NCAA sanction by mail today.  The game will be played on June 24th at the Marion Colliseum.  The Annual cage classic was in doubt pending either approval from  the NCAA or the Ohio High School Athletic Association.  The association's board of control was in the process of conducting a referendum of high school principals on whether they favored the game.

The decision to conduct the referendum came last month after the board split 3-3 on whether to sanction the game.  The final count was expected to be announced at the board's mid-April meeting.  Baker said the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association still is anxious to receive statewide sanction despite the NCAA approval.

NOTE:  Much local interest is further injected into the contest as former Stone  Creek and  Strasburg basketball coach, Ken Newlon now of Canton Lincoln and Charles Huggins present coach of Strasburg's State Class A Champions will tutor the north squad.
