67 - Hiland Slams Port Washington 10-2 (5-1-67)

GNADENHUTTEN - Five Purple Riders miscues and a 3-run Home Run for Rich Clark aided the Hiland Hawks (2-0) in its victory.  The Hawks drew 1st blood, scoring 2 unearned runs in the 1st inning and coming back with 4-run barrages in the 3rd and final frames.  Martin Troyer's single in the 3rd started Hiland's rally.  He scored after Joe Wengerd doubled and Greg Bender, Purple Riders hurler, was charged with a wild pitch.  Galen Swartzentruber then singled to score Wengard and Carl Swartzentruber blasted a triple, sending Galen home.  Carl then scored when Jeff Ling grounded out.

Two errors and Clark's homer provided the 4 runs in the 7th to cap the Hawks scoring attack.  Ronnie  Keim who recorded a win over Malvern last week, struck out 9, while walking 3.  The Freshman fireballer gave up a triple to Bender (1) in the 4th inning and a single to Jerry Stephens (2) in the final frame.  Bender (2-1) picked up his 1st loss of the season, yielding 6 hits and striking out 4 before being relieved after 2 innings by Jeff Huston.  The latter pitched hitless ball until Clark's blast.  He fanned 4 and issued a lone walk.  Port Washington now stands at (2-1) (4-2) in tournament and league play.
