Gnadenhutten's Indians and Midvale's Blue Devils, who face each other Friday night in the Tuscarawas County Class "A" League's most important game of the season to date, chalked up victories last night in final warmups for the meeting. Gnadenhutten (6-0) (10-2) had the easier time, whipping Port Washington (0-5) (2-10) 81-46, while Midvale (5-0) (11-1) was forced to come from behind to snatch a 68-66 decision over Scio (6-5). They are the only unbeaten league teams remaining. Coach Bob Gauma's Gnaden crew, in chalking up the season's second win over Port Washington, rolled to 20-10, 34-22 and 53-35 quarter leads. The Indians whipped the Purple Riders 72-45 on December 12. With John Hall grabbing 20 rebounds and Paul Gooding 18, the Indians controlled both backboards. All of the Gnaden starters came through with two-figure offensive displays. High-scoring Ron Bradley upped his season aggregate to 327 by potting 29, while Ron Clark had 18, Hall and Gooding 12 each and Ray Rank 10. Pint-sized Bill Phillips and John Landon were Port's main offensive hopes with 22 and 18 points respectively, The Gnadenhutten Reserves (9-2) whipped the Port Washington Reserves (2-10) 39-21.

Midvale came from behind on the shooting of Tom Krocker, who came up with two baskets in the closing minute and a half to turn the tide of battle against the troublesome Scio quintet. The Blue Devils trailed 14-12 at the quarter, led 31-30 at halftime and then were on the short end of a 52-47 count at the three-quarter mark. Coach Pete Hilliard's charges went to work in the final stanza and managed to gain a 64-64 deadlock with a short time remaining. Krocker put Midvale ahead with a basket, but Scio came bouncing back to knot the count again before Krocker bagged the winning basket with 60 seconds to play. The Blue Devils stalled the remaining time. Ron Breniser took scoring honors for Midvale with 22 points, while Krocker was right behind with 20. Norris Brooks hit for 30 for Scio and Scott Amos finished with 19. In the Reserve game Midvale (8-4) tripped up Scio 54-21.
