Port Washington's Purple Riders, under the direction of Coach Bray Toot for the 10th season, launch their cage campaign at Stone Creek against the Panthers tonight. Coach Toot, dean of area court mentors, has high hopes for his Riders this year who are bolstered by four lettermen from last season's aggregation which won 15 of 23 games and finished in a fifth place tie in the county league. Heading the returning quartet are high-scoring Tom Jones and Bill McConnell, both 6-1 seniors; Robert Welsch, 5-9 senior; and Ed Bates, 6-1 junior. Additional height is available from 6-3 junior Jim Emler, and 6-2 junior Nick Frank. Other leading aspirants include Juniors Denver Glazier, 5-9, Jerry Hannahs, 5-11, Doyle Galbraith, 5-10, and William Gibbs, 5-9; Sophomores Don Ferral, 5-9, Don Jones, 5-9, Tom Gardner, 5-10, Ron Phillips, 5-5, Leroy Davies, 5-8, and Terry Urban, 5-7. Freshman candidates are Keith Heston, Robert Thornton and Roger Quillan, all 5-8.
