Stone Creek (11-7) and Sugarcreek-Shanesville (9-9) will inaugurate the 1956 Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Tournament at Dover's Memorial Hall on Tuesday, February 14. Drawings for the 34th annual county cage carnival, held in the office of W.E. Laws, superintendent of county schools, also pared Mineral City (3-15) against Tuscarawas (6-10) and Dundee (2-15) against Bolivar 5-12) for opening night action. Stone Creek's Panthers and the Pirates of Sugarcreek-Shanesville will square off at 6:30PM with the Mineral City-Tusky clash set for 7:45 and the Dundee-Bolivar tussle for 9 o'clock. Since Strasburg and Midvale rank as the two top teams in the county league they were automatically placed in opposite brackets as were Gnadenhutten, the third place team, and Port Washington, which is fourth. Strasburg (15-0) which drew the upper bracket and the first bye, meets the Stone Creek-Sugarcreek winner on Friday, February 17, while Gnadenhutten (16-2) goes against the Mineral City-Tusky victor the same night in another upper bracket fray. The same evening, in the lower bracket Port Washington (12-5) will take on Baltic (6-11). Midvale (13-5), which drew the lower bracket and an automatic bye, does not see action until Saturday, February 18 when they meet the Dundee-Bolivar winner. After the three games Tuesday February 14 and two February 15, there will be three on February 17 and three February 18.
