Gnadenhutten's Indians and Stone Creek's Panthers will meet in the county scholastic baseball tournament next Tuesday at a site to be determined. Each notched victories yesterday. Coach Dick Scott's Tribesmen romped to an easy 15-5 decision over Port Washington's Purple Riders, while the Panthers of Coach Leo Gower were squeezing out a 5-4 nod over Baltic's Eagles in an extra eighth inning. A big seven-run outburst in the fourth frame gave Gnaden all it needed to coast into the victory over the Riders as Lloyd Porter and Carl Rauzi scattered six Port Washington hits while Porter was striking out eight batsmen. Bob Welsch, who fanned five, and Jerry Hannahs shared mound duties for Port Washington and gave up 14 safeties. Bob Wallace had a triple and single, Jim Meek a double and single and Jerry McKeown a two-bagger for the Indians while, Jim Emler and Tom Jones each hit doubles for the losers. Ben Wherley smacked a homerun in the extra eighth frame to give Stone Creek its narrow win over Baltic as Mel McAfee went the route for the Panthers and scattered seven Eagle hits, while fanning eight. After Baltic scored three runs in the third, Stone Creek knotted the count in the sixth as Harold Baker doubled home Patrick who had singled. Baker also had a home run, while Reindenbach, Baltic pitcher, socked two triples and a single.
