BOLIVAR - With Coach Bob Heller sending the starting team to the bench in preference to an all senior five for Tuscarawas Valley's last regular season game, Port Washington's Purple Riders (0-8) (1-17) almost pulled a mild upset here last night. But The Trojans (5-3) (11-5) weathered the storm to take the verdict from the scrappy Rider outfit. At the end of the first quarter the two teams were tied 15-15, but in the second quarter the invaders jumped to a 29-25 lead as they outscored the hosts 14-10. Third quarter action saw Tuscarawas Valley knot the count at 42-42 and in the final period the Trojans salvaged the victory as the usual starting quintet came to the rescue. Leading the Trojans was Joe King who tallied seven goals and three fouls for 17 points, while coming in for their share of the scoring honors was regular Wayne Ruof with 14 points and Gary Archinal, who had 12. Freshman Bill Phillips paced Port Washington as he hit the nets for 19 points on nine fielders and one foul. His brother Ron and John Landon added 12 each. The Port Washington Graders (5-6) won the initial game over the Tuscarawas Valley Graders 41-31. The Port Washington Reserves (1-17) mirrored the Port varsity by losing to the Tuscasrawas Valley Reserves 41-28.
