PORT WASHINGTON - Baltic (8-4) led all the way in its triumph over Port Washington (1-10), but was pushed to the limit by the Bill Oppenheimer-coached Rider quintet. The Eagles took a 1-point, 13-12 edge in the first quarter and held a 41-29 advantage at half time, outscoring the hosts 28-19. Coach Jack Belville of Baltic, using only seven men, saw his cagers assume a 61-43 margin at the end of the third quarter and they added 20 more markers in the final stanza when the upstart Purple Riders meshed the nets for 27, giving the Eagles a scare. John Rice was the big man in the Eagle attack when he scorched the nets for 13 field goals and two foul shots for 28 points. Contributing 15 on seven shots from the field and one from the charity line was Sam Jacobs. Gary Berger and Ron Huprich scored 13 and 10 points, respectively. Don Ferrell led the Purple Riders with 15, while Ron Phillips and Don Jones had 14 points. The Baltic Reserves battered the Port Washington Reserves (1-10) 52-16. In the Grade game, Baltic edged Port Washington (2-4) 39-32.
