Midvale's County Class A League champions will play Port Washington in the second game on opening night of the 36th annual County Tournament at Memorial Hall next Thursday. Drawings for the classic were held this morning in the office of County Supt. W.E. Laws, tourney manager. The seeded Blue Devils, unbeaten in eight league games, defeated Baltic last night for their 16th straight victory after losing their first two contests. Last year they advanced to the state semi-finals. Port Washington was winless in the league and posted only one victory in 18 season games. The tourney's opening game at 6:30 will pit Strasburg (11-7) against Garaway (11-10). Garaway is the new school district comprising Sugarcreek-Shanesville, Auburn and Wayne Townships. The Blue Devils and Purple Riders will collide at 7:45 and Stone Creek (12-8) will play Baltic (12-7) at 9. Tourney action will be resumed next Saturday, because Dover will be entertaining Steubenville on Friday night. The Saturday contests will send Tuscarawas Valley (11-5) against the Strasburg-Garaway winner at 7:30 and Gnadenhutten (14-5) against Tuscarawas (5-12) at 8:45. Gnadenhutten, which took second place in the league with a 6-2 mark, and Tuscarawas clash tonight in a non-loop contest at Gnadenhutten. The semi-finals will be staged on Thursday, February 20 with the two winners advancing to the sectional playoff, also scheduled for Memorial Hall. They also will collide on Saturday night, February 22, at 8PM for the tourney title. Seeded along with Midvale in today's drawings were Gnadenhutten, Stone Creek and Tuscarawas, the latter two tieing for third place in the league.
