SUGARCREEK - The Sugarcreek Pirates (1-0) (4-2) jumped off to a big 19-3 first period margin and from there waltzed on to victory. They held margins of 37-18 at halftime and 49-33 at the end of the third quarter. Topping three Pirates scorers who hit in the double figure column was Charley Stengil who netted seven goals and three fouls for 17 points. Close behind was Bill Siemmer with 16 and John Zehnder with 13. Tom Garnder led the Port Washington Purple Riders (0-2) (0-5) with 10 markers on four goals and two free throws. The Pirate Reserves also won the preliminary by a score of 49-21. The Port Washington Reserves are now 1-4. Again, the sweep started with the Sugarcreek Graders beating the Port Washington Graders (1-2) 35-27.
